Rev. Scott M. Low – Pastor
Pastor Scott Low began at Tallmadge UMC in July of 2016 after pastoring in Solon (2006-2016), Cambridge (2000-2006), and Wooster (1994-2000). He has great appreciation for a variety of worship styles from the old favorite hymns and liturgy to the modern music genres and spontaneous prayers. Scott is committed to working with people to trust God with our whole lives, and to help others to experience the wholeness that God offers in spite of living in a broken world. I truly believe that the church must be more than a place where people simply talk about being and doing good. The church must be a people who are sent into our world with the transforming hope, healing, feeding, clothing, and freeing power of Jesus Christ!
Scott has years of experience in youth ministry and believes strongly that children and youth are a vital part of the life of the church. He also believes that he must be involved in the life of the community building bridges into the life of faith.
Scott is an avid bicyclist, downhill and cross-country snow skier, a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and enjoys watching and participating in most sports. Scott enjoyed a six-year stint as co-chaplain for the Cleveland Gladiators Arena Football Team that ended in 2019.
In 2013, Scott enjoying two months at Camphor Mission in Liberia, West Africa. This renewal leave strengthened his inclusive missional worldview. The entire Low family has connections in Liberia after spending time with the joy-filled people there. It’s astonishing how strong the people’s faith is in spite of the challenges they face after their country’s destructive civil war and more recently the Ebola crisis.
Born and raised in central Ohio, Scott is a graduate of The Columbus Academy High School and the Ohio Northern University where he earned a business degree and was a four-year running back on the football team. After a short career in business, he answered his call to ministry and attended The Methodist Theological School in Ohio (’94). Scott’s wife, Kay, is a special education teacher who has taught every grade preschool through adult G.E.D. classes. She has taught at the LeBron James I Promise School since it opened in 2018. Scott and Kay met in Lakeside, Ohio where he currently serves on the Lakeside Association Board of Directors.
Scott and Kay have three adult children and five grandchildren; Josh is married to Maddy who have Mateo and Lucas, Lizzy is married to Matthew Laubscher who have Brady and Elly, and Sam is married to Cierra who have Nora.
